Game Client

The game client is written in Java, so you can run it within the recent editions of the major browsers (Java Plug-in compatible), or you can run it standalone also using the Java Plug-in. The down load section of the web site describes this in more detail.

It requires a fairly modern PC (Pentium with 16M memory or more) to run at an OK speed. Older PC's and lower specs should still work. Supported platforms are Solaris, Windows 95/98/ME and Windows NT 4.x, Windows 2000.

The game client allows you to send orders to join the game, slide out of the game for a time (e.g. holidays) and also to review the results of last turn and enter orders for the next turn. Turn reports are emailed to you every day or can be obtained on-line, and you should either email your orders back or use the on-line option to send them to the game server every day as well. The game client includes on-line mechanisms for getting and receiving reports/orders, it does not include an email facility and if you decide to use email you will have to use your existing email product. The text from the emails is pasted into the client or copied from the client.

The nature of the game is such that it will evolve gradually with time as new ideas are added. At such times a new version of the game client will be put on the web site and all players will need to obtain it.

All queries regarding the game client should be sent to support@faraway.co.uk.
